The Hydrographic basin of the ‘Rio
Blanco’ is a part of the occidental slope of the Colombian
Central Andean mountain range. It belongs to the municipality
of Manizales and is located at 1.6 kilometers – one
mile- far from the north-oriental side of the urban limits
of the town, next to some neighborhoods such as: ‘La
Sultana’, ’Minitas’, ‘La Cumbre’
and ‘La Toscana’.
This basin extends itself through
the north-oriental area , right upper side of the ‘Rio
Chinchina’ basin. Inside this hydrographic basin, it
is located the highest point of Manizales called ‘La
Linea’, which is 3800 meters above sea level.
To arrive to this place there are
two roads available, there is a possibility of different kinds
of lodging and communication systems as phones and radio-phones.
The hospitality of native people who protect the reservation
is an advantage because they become the best hosts for the
visitors, who can count on the security and accessibility
of the region.
Geographic Characteristics:
Las Delicias is the mid point of the reserve and its geographic
position is 5° 4' 21'' N; 75°32'00'' W.
Topographic Characteristics:
This is a protected natural reserve with altitude ranging
from 2240 to 3790 meters above sea level and an extension
of 4343 hectares. The average rainfall per year is 2500 mm
and the average temperature is 11ºC.
