Along with their eye-catching and beautiful flowers, some are the size of just a few millimeters, Orchids are perhaps the most fascinating plants in nature due to their sophisticated pollination and germination systems which involve complex relations with other plants or animals.
Orchid species in the forests of the Rio Blanco Reserve are being identified, and a collection of live orchids is open to the public forming part of the education process done there.

This is also a place of constant investigation on the aspects of phenology and the ecology of this family of plants. In posterior stages, it is planned to establish live collections of other families of plants in the reserve such as Bromeliads and Araceous (Anturios) for education and investigation.

Bromeliads are mostly epiphytes (live on other plants) and are relatives of the pineapple. They are a favorite food of the Andean bears and are found at all the altitudes in the reserve in a great variety of forms and colors.
