OBSERVATION OF BIRDS IN COLOMBIA (SOUTH AMERICA)


 Colombia, on the northern tip of South America and with 0.1% of the worldwide territory, has 10% of all the known biological diversity. There are two global hotspots (puntos calientes) in the Colombian territories: The tropical Andes and the Region of Tumbes • Chocó - Magdalena.


With altitudes between 0 and 6,000 meters above see level, within nearly 40 different ecosystems, it has the greatest worldwide diversity of birds with nearly 2000 species, of which 4% are endemic species, and 11% are of a restricted range.
It has 53 protected areas of a governmental nature (http://www.parquesnacionales.gov.co /). And more than 560 reservations protected by the civil society (http://www.resnatur.org.co ) also 200 IBAS (important areas for bird conservation (http://.aicas.humboldt.org.co ).

On a good bird watching day it is possible to see up to 150 different species, such as: Chestnut Wood-Quail, Rufous-fronted parakeet, Black-billed Mountain-Toucan, Brown-banded Antpitta, among others.
